Back to School – Staying Organized & Time Management

A photo of Liz smiling, motioning the peace sign while sitting in front of her desk.

Hey all! It’s that time of year. Get your notebooks, pens and laptops ready cause we’re heading back to school. I am entering my Senior Year, for the second time, but I have even more experience to share this time around. I’m ready to do that victory lap #supersenior. From my four years of undergrad in college, I put together a list of my top tips so you don’t lose your mind. Get ready to master time management and live your best college life. From club activities, to work and studying, you’ll be ready to succeed.

Buy an agenda or desk calendar

In the beginning of the semester, go through and write down assignments and big due dates. When it comes time for the due dates, it won’t be a big surprise. If you plan on working out then write it down. If you need to make a to-do list then write it in your agenda. Crossing items off my to-do list always makes me feel like I’m getting stuff done. This is a big factor in successful time management in college!

Here are the planners that I love and would definitely recommend.

Block off time

Someone gave me this advice at the beginning of last year and it has helped me so much in the amount of work that I get done with the time I have. Give yourself two hours to work on a certain class and then another two hours for a different class. This has helped me so much when it comes to my Education classes when the work seems to go on forever with reading and lesson plans. Block off time to maximize the rest of it!

Make time for yourself

Why didn’t anyone tell me that I needed time throughout my day for just me? I had to work and go to school and I was exhausted. Instead of working every free second, I decided to budget and figure out how much money I would actually need and then plan my work hours from there. This has helped so much and I don’t get overwhelmed all the time. I also don’t have to pick up extra shifts when it’s time for the bills to be due.

Enjoy time with friends

It’s so easy to get distracted and start scrolling on your phone when you’re hanging out with friends, especially if you’re hanging out on someone’s couch! (I’m super guilty of this!) Why might you ask is this important to staying organized in college? If you’re present in the moment with your friends, you’ll be more present when you need to accomplish other things while at school or work. I always feel refreshed, organized and ready to take on the next day after good conversation with my pals.

I hope y’all are having a great school year and living your best lives!

XOXO
